What is the Executive Leadership Program?

The Executive Leadership Program (ELP) identifies and trains aspiring association leaders to establish a pipeline of engaged members that represents NPMA’s diverse membership. The two-year curriculum involves professional development, association training, monthly mentoring, and attendance at NPMA events.

Each year, NPMA selects a cohort of participants to go through a two-year curriculum with monthly meetings that prepare them for association leadership. NPMA pairs participants with mentors, sets up monthly conference calls with participants, and helps fund participation in industry events. Participants are expected to attend NPMA board meetings, participate in committees, take advantage of networking and learning activities, work with a mentor, and be an ambassador for NPMA throughout the industry.

The application period is now open! The deadline to submit applications is Friday, November 13, 2026.

What is the Curriculum?

The curriculum is designed to provide the program participants with the tools they need to be future leaders within the organization. Learning objectives include the following:

work with a mentor on personal and business growth;

receive soft skills training such as

Networking

Executive etiquette

Unconscious bias

Public speaking;

be able to communicate NPMA’s purpose, history and goal areas;

attend NPMA events in order to participate in committee meetings and network with industry leaders;

be able to utilize NPMA member benefits to grow their businesses and help their colleagues

serve on NPMA committees; and

participate in monthly conference calls.

How Much Time and Money Do I Need to Commit?

Most of the program is self-study of the resources provided which includes five books, a personality profile and watching presentations. Participants will be required to participate in monthly one-hour webinars with other participants and NPMA leaders. You will be assigned to a mentor – however the frequency of your communication is up to you both. Additionally, each year you are expected to attend 2 out of 3 of the large NPMA meetings including the NPMA Board Meeting and committee meetings if they take place before the conference. NPMA will fund your registration and your travel (to include transportation, hotel and incidentals), so that you can fully participate, share your experiences and explore the largest networking events of our industry.

How are Participants Selected?

Interested candidates will complete the application and a panel of judges will select a maximum of ten participants from the received applications. Applicants must be from an NPMA member company (a Regular Member as defined in the NPMA B

NPMA exists to positively impact the businesses and livelihoods of those in the pest management community each and every day. One of the most impactful benefits of association membership is tapping into a network that can help you and your business grow. Through participation in our Hives program, you will grow your network. If you have questions, please e-mail kkrieger@pestworld.org.

Time Commitment

Up to 9 weeks, 30 minutes/week. Same time every week. Once your Hive is done, that's it. You continue your career with the expanded network and friendships you have built. We encourage you to stay in touch with each other via e-mail, social media, and attending industry events. You are welcome to participate in future Hives to continue to grow your network.

Who You'll Meet

In your Hive, you’ll meet folks who are here to provide mutual support and motivation in each other’s professional journeys. We’ll handpick and introduce you to a group of 5-7 fellow NPMA members.

How It Works (for a Hive of 7):

Everyone completes this form.

Anyone interested in being a Hive moderator will be invited to attend a training webinar.

Our planning committee picks the Hives and Hive moderators.

Hive moderators will reach out to their Hive prior to the first week of the program to set up the calendar invite. Your Hive moderator is your point of contact for the rest of the program.

Week 1: meet each other and pick your week

Weeks 2-8: Each participant has a week where they bring a topic to the group to discuss. So, each week a different member gets to ask for advice specific to their career goal and situation. At least 24 hours before your week, send your Hive an e-mail preparing them for the conversation (topic, specific questions you have, resources you are looking for). That gives everyone time to prepare to support you. If the Hive moderator chooses to, the Zoom may be open for 15 minutes before or after the 30-minute meeting for those who wish to socialize.

Week 9: Recap and continued connections

You will get out what you put in. Your Hive will expect you to attend the majority of the weekly meetings safely with your camera on. The risks associated with distracted driving, slips, trips, and falls far outweigh your distracted contribution to one week's meeting. Moderators have been instructed to remove anyone who is putting themself at risk and not giving their full attention to the conversation. You will be welcome and encouraged to rejoin once you can do so safely.
